European Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus)

European Kestrels are often spotted around the UK hovering near a beach, cliffs or

by the side of a road. They see in ultraviolet and use this vision when hunting for

small mammals, mainly rodents. Archie is a 10 year old male and came to us in 2007 straight from his previous breeder. He is mainly seen in our flying displays which we do around Cornwall and Somerset. Captive-bred Kestrels, believe it or not, are very hard to train and hover, but Archie got the hang of this from a young age.
